Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (Fiocruz) is a national institution for research and development in biological sciences, located in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and affiliated with the Ministry of Health.

The National Institute for Health Quality Control (INCQS) is a unit of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) that operates in areas of teaching, research and laboratory technologies related to the quality control of inputs, products, environments and services subject to to the action of the Health Surveillance. It acts in close cooperation with the National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA), with state and municipal Health Departments, among other partners.

The Reference Chemical Substances of the Brazilian Pharmacopoeia (SQRFB) are established by the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) in partnership with the National Institute for Quality Control in Health (INCQS), a unit of Fiocruz, the pharmaceutical industry in the country, and university laboratories. They represent a low-cost and easily accessible option for companies and professionals working in the field of drug quality control in the country. These substances are used for the execution of analytical procedures that require the use of comparative and traceable standards, for the characterization and/or assignment of values of properties that ensure the reliability of the results. The availability of national SQR facilitates their acquisition and involves issues related to the preservation of technological knowledge and national security.

In pursuit of national self-sufficiency in establishing these substances, it was decided to develop the project of Brazilian SQR, involving the mentioned partners. Interlaboratory studies ensure the quality of these substances. They are then officially recognized by Anvisa through Collegiate Board Resolutions, so that they can be used in quality control assays of inputs and pharmaceutical specialties based on the comparison of the substance to be analyzed with the reference material. This project strengthens a system of distribution of SQR in the country, aiming to meet the needs of the chemical-pharmaceutical industry and official and private drug quality control agencies, providing greater agility, reducing costs, and facilitating access to these substances.

CHALLENGE

Redesign the system interface, assess user journeys, monitor and prioritize the backlog queue with the dev team. It was an end-to-end delivery, all the way to the content manager.

RESULT

A product with a responsive web interface for end-users, with an internally developed manager. The Design System greatly aided in generating high-fidelity prototypes, and all validation tests surprised users in usability testing
